David W. Howington, DMD
Dr. Howington grew up in Commerce, Georgia, started at the University of Georgia in 1988, and came out of a selective combined-degree program in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in biology and a Doctorate of Dental Medicine. He spent two years as an associate dentist in his hometown, a year as staff dentist for the Georgia Department of Corrections at Wilcox State Prison, and some time as a fill-in dentist for other practices before buying Dr. Horace Chitty's practice here in Moultrie. He has been in this same building ever since.
He bought the practice back when dentists in Georgia were not permitted to advertise, which meant a reputation got built one patient at a time or it did not get built at all. After dental school he trained at the Pankey Institute, which focuses on complex, full-mouth cases where teeth are worn down and the bite is off and one filling is not going to solve anything. That training is why he looks at a whole mouth as one connected system, and it is also why he does not do more than a tooth genuinely needs. He finished a full renovation of the office in 2021, added a digital scanner so cosmetic and implant cases can be planned on screen instead of guessed at, and he lives in an apartment directly above the practice.
Patients tend to notice the pace before anything else. Dr. Howington spends about two hours of his own time on a single crown. On cosmetic cases he sends the plan to the lab before promising a result, so that what you hear is what your particular bite and spacing will actually allow. He will tell you what he would do if it were his own mouth. Three members of the team speak Spanish, so treatment gets explained clearly in the language you are most comfortable in. After twenty-seven years, a great deal of this practice still arrives the same way it always has, by one patient telling another.

Does Dr. Howington see adult patients?
Yes. Dr. Howington is a general dentist who treats adults and children in the same office, and adult care is a large part of what this practice does. Because many families in Moultrie first came here for a child's cleaning, plenty of people assume this is a children's practice, and it is not. Cleanings, fillings, crowns, veneers, implant restoration, dentures, and full-mouth rebuilds are all done here, and you can often be seen the same day as your child.

Yes. Cosmetic and implant cases here are planned with a digital scanner, which builds a precise three-dimensional picture of your teeth on the screen in front of you. Instead of describing what you want and hoping it matches, you and Dr. Howington look at the plan together before any work begins. On veneer and crown cases he will also send the plan to the lab first, so that what he tells you is based on what your bite and spacing will genuinely allow.
Do you take my dental insurance?
This practice is fee-for-service, which means treatment decisions are based on what your teeth need rather than on what a plan is willing to cover. If you have dental benefits, our team will file your claim as a courtesy so you still receive whatever your plan pays. Payment plans are available for larger treatment, and you will always know the cost before work begins. You do not need dental insurance to be seen here.
I have not been to a dentist in years. Will I be judged?
No, and this is one of the most common things people say when they call. Life gets in the way, cost gets in the way, and one skipped year turns into several. Dr. Howington has been doing this for 30 years and has seen every version of it. We will look at where things actually stand, explain it in plain language, and map out a sensible order to work through it.
Do you offer Invisalign for adults?
Yes, Invisalign is now offered here in Moultrie. Clear aligners are removable, so you take them out to eat and to brush, and most people around you will not notice you are wearing them. It tends to appeal to adults who always wished their teeth were straighter but could not picture themselves in metal brackets.
